Digital TV – How to get Freesat and Freeview.

July 6th, 2011 posted by admin

There are two ways to get subscription free digital TV programming. The first is Freeview and this is received through your ariel. Most is in standard definition at the moment but some is now in HD. To view Freeview HD you need an HD ready TV. Your existing standard definition digital TV Freeview box cannot receive Freeview HD. This means that you will have to purchase either a Freeview HD TV or a Freeview HD set top box.

Many people, when they think of internet TV, think of BSkyB and having to pay a subscription. Whilst it is true that Sky dominates the field, and has by far the most number of channels, you do pay for it. But, did you know that there has always been a wide range of free digital TV channels broadcasting via the same satellites that are used by BSkyB?

It has always been possible to purchase satellite digital TV receivers that could pick up these free channels. The problem for many people is that they were complicated and didn’t have the Electronic Programme Guides that make viewing easier. Freesat’s EPG solves this problem. There are a handful of HD channels available on Freesat but most are in standard definition. Freesat offers far more channels than Freeview. You need a satellite dish. If you have an existing Sky digital dish, you can use that. If not, you will have to have one installed at a cost of about £80.

Pansonic is the only company to produce a simple solution such as internet tv rather than making it complex as others do
