Simple things can bring a smile on your face
A couple of days ago, watching a movie made me realize how cute kids can actually be. Their remarks and reactions are not only unpredictable, but are so inherently innocent that it brings a smile on your face. The movie itself was a sweet, romantic comedy based on a father daughter relationship. The mother was the subject of conversation for the two since the couple was going to be divorced soon and so the father decided to tell his daughter all about him and his wife.
Weaving a mysterious story, the father filled the little girl with various snapshots from his previous life. He narrated his own life as an observer and provided his daughter with an insight into his life prior to marriage. Naturally, this tale had many female characters in it and the father decided to play a game with his daughter. He described each of the women in his life in great detail, keeping their identities a secret and his daughter was to guess the one special woman who eventually became his mother. He describes their dates, the first time they went looking for Ilford flats and houses for rent, how she smiled when she ate ice-cream, everything.
Doesn’t sound too funny till now? Read on! The father, who was apparently a gifted story-teller, gets carried away with the whole narration concept and forgets that his audience is a little girl, barely able to comprehend it all. He pours out his life his daughter who is completely hooked on to it and doesn’t allow him to stop even though she doesn’t understand a few ‘adult’ things which her father indulged in!
It is only after a major chunk of the story is complete and the two stop for a hot cocoa break that the girl finally decides to comment on her father’s story. Till now, she had listened with great interest, completely absorbed and fascinated; making faces where she thought appropriate. At this point, she braves her way to her father, catches hold of him and says,” Dad, I can’t believe you smoke and drank and were such a slut!”
